What is BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny)?
BaZi (八字, "eight characters") is the classical Chinese system that maps the year, month, day and hour of your birth onto four pillars — each a pair of a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. Together they describe your elemental makeup: your core self (the Day Master), your resources, your output, your discipline and your opportunities. Unlike sun-sign horoscopes, BaZi is computed from the solar calendar with astronomical precision, which is why the exact date, time and place of birth matter.
Why your birth hour (and solar time) matters
The hour pillar is built from the true solar time at your birthplace, not the clock time. A birth at 09:05 by the clock can fall into a different two-hour branch once longitude is accounted for. This calculator applies the longitude correction automatically — a detail that most free calculators skip, and a common source of wrong hour pillars.
What are Luck Pillars (Da Yun)?
Luck Pillars are ten-year periods that color the "background weather" of your life. Their sequence and starting age are computed from the solar terms around your birth and your gender. Knowing your current pillar shows which element dominates the decade — and when the background shifts.
How accurate is this calculator?
Pillars are computed from precise solar-term (节气) boundaries — the same astronomical standard professional BaZi software uses; the hour pillar is solar-time corrected. Your data is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded.
